Holy Jack Dugan.

As the first half of Wednesday's Development Camp session winds down, one thing keeps popping into my head and that is Jack Dugan (#51). In essentially every aspect of the session, Dugan stood out, head and shoulders above the rest of the group. He looks to have the total package, albeit in a safe setting, away from full-time NHL players. Watching him scrimmage the next three days will be fun.

Mid-practice stretch, led by Dugan (J. Paul)

Dugan is no stranger to City National Arena, as he has been in all three VGK Development Camps, dating back to the summer of 2017. In addition to the "resident old guy", newcomer Mason Primeau (#57) looks like a treat, which shouldn't come as a surprise, as he comes from a rock solid hockey family.

Mason Primeau has a high ceiling, with his lineage. (J. Paul)

Let's start with his cousin, Cayden, the goalie who was drafted in 2017 by the Montreal Canadiens. After two years at Northwestern and playing a huge role for USA Hockey, he will turn pro and almost certainly play in the AHL this coming season. Cayden's dad, Keith was a longtime Detroit Red Wing and Philadephia Flyer, captaining the "Broad Street Bullies". Finally, his dad Wayne played 774 games in the league. To say Mason has skates to fill, is an understatement.

M. Primeau has his uncle's size, standing a towering 6-foot-5. Once he fills out a bit, he could be a force on the ice. He displays plus skating, solid hands, and everyone knows you can't teach size. As a fifth round draft pick this summer, he doesn't have overwhelming expectations placed on him....yet.

Speaking on the draft, the Golden Knights' second round pick this year, defenseman Kaedan Korczak, looked very nice during the afternoon session. His passing and skating were truly impressive and he is a player I'll personally watch in the scrimmages later this week. He could have a faster progression than I initially thought.

In net, Jordan Kooy (#34) looked really good during drills that are essentially designed in favor of the shooters. In the second half of this afternoon/evening session, Isaiah Saville (#31) will be in net across from a familiar face in Dylan Ferguson (#1).

Keenan Suthers (#79) is a bona fide giant. It really surprising that he skates as well as he does, for just how big he is. He gives Zdeno Chara something to strive for in the height department, standing a stoic 6-foot-8.

Scrimmages will be coming after a morning practice session on Thursday. One scrimmage is scheduled for 4pm Thursday, another at 10am Friday, and concluding with a 9:15am skate on Saturday.

Unfortunately, due to minor and one major (Peyton Krebs) injury, Development Camp trucks on without notable players in defenseman Jimmy Schuldt, center Peyton Krebs, defenseman Zach Whitecloud, and forward Paul Cotter.
