Those of you who stopped by my game day posting earlier today may have noticed one of my closing statements:

If the Blues lay an egg tonight, I wonder if Mike Yeo even makes it to Thanskgiving in St. Louis.

I later followed it up in the comments before the game started, saying:
For the record, if they fire Yeo, i have a feeling Berube will get to be interim head coach.

Well, the team laid the egg, a big goose egg and Yeo was fired and replaced by Berube on an interim basis. The shutout was the 4th in six games and the 3rd in 4 games.

I really hope Mike Yeo’s firing doesn’t turn into a bashing session. More so, I would implore you not to do so. I promise you, like Ken Hitchcock, Andy Murray and Joel Quennville before him, Yeo did everything in his power to try and get the team to win. He did everything in his power that he believed would make the team successful. It didn’t work out but it wasn’t for lack of effort or will.

As importantly, from everything I have seen and heard, Mike Yeo appears to be one of the more stand-up guys. Why would I say that? Well, it’s based on stories that I have heard, some that I have read, and some raw player reactions. The stores range from Yeo helping office staff to equipment staff to his interactions with the players and staff. It’s the quotes of the players defending their coach over the last couple of weeks. Do you remember players coming out before the firing and defending Davis Payne, Andy Murray or Ken Hitchcock? No, because it didn’t happen like it did this time. It’s the fact that he didn’t lambaste his players in public over the last few weeks. As a contrast, can you imagine the media quotes and interviews Mike Keenan would have been giving this season?

Yeo’s style for whatever reason didn’t work. I haven’t always seen eye to eye with his choices or strategies but I’ll always respect him for the way he handled himself.
