The Rangers defeated the Flyers 3-2 in their second of two development camp scrimmages. Will Cuylle continued his strong camp by notching a pair while Niks Lundkvist had a very good game, capped by his game-winning marker. Talyn Boyko, selected in the 4th round this past draft, was solid between the pipes in the win. Development camp has ended as today's practice was canceled and training camp opens on Wednesday, the 22nd.

Scratches:

I hope Richards' injury is not a concussion and whatever it is, does not keep him out of regular camp. As discussed yesterday, Richards was and is a candidate as a dark horse for a fourth line role. Any time he misses will be detrimental to his chance. The potential and actual absences of Rueschhoff and Robertson were revealed just before game-time. Both are likely to start the year at Hartford, but both would benefit from a full camp, especially Robertson due to the depth chart in front of him on the blueline.

Cuylle's pair of tallies:

Cuylle likely has either been the best or one of the top three players this camp. He certainly has opened eyes. Both goals came on deflections in front of the net, set up by Zac Jones shot/passes. Cuylle has the size to carve out room on the ice, I would love to see him work with Adam Graves on positioning and how to use your size to your advantage to build on the skill he clearly already has. Ticketed for Hartford, he is a name to watch.

Lundqvist goal:

Lundkvist was robbed of a goal earlier in the period but he made no mistake on the game-winner. His play improved as the two games went on, capped with his performance yesterday. Lundkvist goes into training camp on a roll as he looks to secure the third-pair role across from Patrick Nemeth.

I am out of pocket Tuesday and Wednesday due to the holiday. Not expecting any major news, but as we have seen in the past, who knows. Will be back online late Wednesday night and post a new blog then if anything material has broken.
