Rangers coaching staff replaced by Hartford staff due to COVID protocols

This crazy season somehow got crazier Wednesday. Due to COVID-19 protocols, head coach David Quinn, and assistant coaches Jacques Martin, David Oliver, & Greg Brown, will be unavailable for tonight’s game. Wolf Pack head coach Kris Knoblauch, associate coach Gord Murphy, and associate GM Chris Drury will be behind the bench tonight.

We all know if the Rangers win, the Quinn haters will be out in full force. If they lose, it's Quinn's fault. Same for the decision to sit Julien Gauthier, who scored Monday, but had two bad penalties, and Tarmo Reunanen, after making his season debut Monday. In their stead, Pavel Buchnevich and Adam Fox, who missed Monday's contest versus Philly due to same COVID protocols, are back in the lineup. How no one else has been exposed and need to sit other than management is beyond me, but again, crazy season gets crazier.

I might have sat Brendan Smith for Reunanen, maybe Libor Hajek, but that's not a given. For Gauthier, once he took that second penalty, you knew he was toast and getting benched. But, I could have seen sitting Brett Howden and a handful of others before Gauthier, who showed his speed, power and skill on his tally Monday. In net, Alexandar Georgiev, after working on the mental aspect of his game with goaltending coach/whsiperer Benoit Allaire, gets back between the pipes, replacing Keith Kinkaid. Igor Shesterkin remains out, but at least is on the ice.

New York got a point Monday but tossed one away. The defense needs to be better while we will be watching Georgiev with our fingers in front of our eyes, slightly spread to see action, at least periodically. Look for Artemi Panarin to take over again, as the Rangers look to get back to NHL .500 on the season.
