The Rangers extended their home winning streak to six games, defeating the Stars 2-1 on Monday. With the win, new York improved to 8-1-1 in their last 10 contests. In a game where shots and offense were at a premium, the Blueshirts received tallies from Jimmy Vesey, on a ridiculous score, and Fliip Chytil, his fourth straight with a marker, while Henrik Lundqvist made 17 saves to notch the win.

Game recap :

David Quinn Post Game:

Lines:

Mats Zuccarello missed his second straight contest and fifth in his past six with a groin injury. Chytil was on a line again with Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes while Jesper Fast skated on the first line. Steven Fogarty made his debut on the fourth line with Cody McLeod and Lias Andersson. If I have one criticism of coach David Quinn, it's that even in a game that was 1-1 to start the third and 2-1 with 15:28 remaining. Andersson played just 9:01, Fogarty 7:25 and McLeod 7:03. The only explanation might be that he didn't want Fogarty, in his first game, and McLeod on to protect the one goal lead, which hurt Andersson's minutes. But this is the type of game where rolling four lines would be beneficial to all involved.

Brady Skjei was scratched again. Seeing how well all six blueliners play, you have to wonder if Skjei sits Wednesday against the Islanders. Quinn said he wants to get Skjei back in, but who sits? My guess is DeAngelo, because Fredrik Claesson should remain in the lineup and none of the other five defensemen likely are to come out.

Jimmy Vesey :

If Neal Pionk has the goal of the year so far for the Rangers, this has to be a close second. Lost in the goal was the the nice feed from Brett Howden to Marc Staal for the shot that resulted in the tally. As seen by the tweet below, Vesey is hot. I have seen his name mentioned and whispered as maybe a piece to include in a deal if New York was somehow able to get William Nylander.

Chyti's goall:

Good play by Smith in the neutral zone and no hesitation by Chytil. The confidence with which he is now playing is evident every time he is on the ice. Chytil extended his team record streak by goals in consecutive games from a teenager to four with the tally Monday. Keep him on a line with Kreider and Hayes, and when Zucc returns, place him next to Mika Zibanejad and Vladislav Namestnikov. The only quibbling point is Chytil going for and missing the empty net resulting in an icing with New York nursing a one-goal lead, but that's the youthful exuberance of a 19-year old who is on an offensive roll.

Claesson's shot block in last minute :

The defense while holding a one goal lead and the Dallas net empty was excellent. besides the block by Claesson, great work by Nam, Zib and Fast as the forwards and Staal as the other blueliner. Not an easy one, but one where Dallas didn't get a great look late. Lundqvist came up big in the first and made a great glove save on Mro Heiskanen late in the second. But beyond that, the team did a solid job of limiting quality chances.
