Well, That Was Something Else

The Coyotes just absolutely dismantled the Rangers last night.

They outshot them 21-4 in the first period, and it was a credit to whoever the Rangers goalie is that the game went to the intermission with a onenothing score.

At 5v5, the Coyotes in the first period drove 75% of the play.

If you ever needed convincing that the Coyotes can't score goals, and won't score enough goals to be a certified GOOD TEAM (I fill out the forms, get them notarized and send them to the team, congratulating them on their newfound status) it's that this game went to overtime.

I guess you could say that Gregoriev(Gorgigagav?) played outofhis mind, but the evidence is piling up that the Coyotes need a sniper.

Weird then that the player who is, at worst, their third most talented player continues to float above the ice in the press box.

Now, Hayton is in a dumb situation. He has really nothing left to prove in junior and is not allowed to play in the AHL, so the Coyotes just sit him out and let him get fat, then, when he does get a shot, and hasn't played in two weeks, Tocchy can say "hey I was right not to play this nerd, get me another Richardson!"

The fact is, the Coyotes are winning and there's nothing to complain about. BUT it's just not optimal to have your top prospect in the pressbox.

The smart coach/GM is proactive, and knows that, even when the results are good, you can't get complacent.

Darcy Kuemper continued his amazing streak of games not allowing a 3rd goal, but the team has a PDO of 102 with a shooting percentage under seven.

The games where they have scored, and drove up the xgoals, were against Nashville, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Las Vegas. All four of those teams are in the bottom half of the league either defensively or save percentage wise.

This kind of nutso goaltending suggests that Lou Lamoriello is secretly running the team, and I hope it lasts. That said, if you're reading this and are not currently a poltergeist, you're on pace to live forever.

IF you are a poltergeist, get lost we don't welcome yer kind round herea (*shakes fist).

In all seriousness, the Coyotes kicked ass last night, and if the score was ten nothing, it would have been more than the Rangers deserved.

Please enjoy the above song, which I think is the ultimate song in the Phil Collins oeuvre and accept my strongest recommendation about the film called the Art of Self Defense.

And hey, who had Goligoski for the late career rejuvenation?
