Coyotes Need to Go Big at the Trade Deadline

The Arizona Coyotes have been strangely absent from NHL trade deadline rumours.

Other than the rumour that they'd flip Taylor Hall (and I'm nearly certain they won't) I haven't seen a single thing about what they might want to do.

And that makes sense, since they already made the biggest move possible, they just did it months before the deadline.

Darcy Kuemper has been out the entire time they've had Taylor Hall, so we haven't really gotten to see the Coyotes at full power.

Good news is that Kuemper has gone to the AHL on a conditioning stint and should be back up soon.

The Coyotes currently have the last wild card spot, but a short run could put them back at the top of their division.

Now, I don't think the Coyotes are a real contender unless they get insane goaltending, and even with the sixth best overall goaltending in the league this year (5v5) they are barely holding a wildcard spot.

I don't think that bodes well, but I've been wrong once or twice before.

Frankly, whether or not it does or doesn't is irrelevant. The Coyotes went all-in the second they added Hall, and they owe it to their fans to try and win.

So what they should be doing between now and Monday is adding another star player to their roster.

The Coyotes need a better centre than Christan Dvorak for Taylor Hall. Dvorak is OK but he's no first liner.

G.M John Chayka has made bold moves before, and he better have another one up his sleeve before Monday because going into the playoff drive with this roster is unacceptable.
