Coyotes Make Another Trade

The Coyotes are having a busy offseason.

They began the summer by re-signing Antti Raanta as the season ended, then they traded for Markus Kruger, traded Max Domi for Alex Galchenyuk, re-signed Oliver Ekman Larsson, Brad Richardson and Nik Hjalmarsson. Then they traded away Markus Kruger, officially named the Chicago Blackhawks as their minor league affiliate and that brings us to today where they have made yet another trade.

The Coyotes have traded prospect Ryan MacInnis to Columbus in exchange for Jacob Graves and a sixth round pick that becomes a fifth round pick if MacInnis gets into 20 NHL games this year. So a sixth round pick, pretty much.

Ryan MacInnis was part of former Coyotes' GM Don Maloney's ludicrous plan to draft the children of every ex NHL player from the 80s ( Al MacInnis, Tie Domi, Ulf Samuelsson, Fred Perlini, Gord Murphy and I'm sure I'm forgetting some). Needless to say this plan was ill conceived and yielded basically no good results.

MacInnis is 22 and was a second round pick in 2014. With 31 points in 127 AHL games, it is safe to say that he doesn't have much NHL potential as a scorer.

Jacob Graves is 23 and undrafted. After five years (!) in the OHL, he has bounced between the AHL and the ECHL and does not look too promising. I just heard of him five minutes ago, though, so who knows?

From what I can tell, the main reason for this trade was that the Coyotes get an extra draft pick next year. In the sixth round!!

Not quite a blockbuster, but if you don't think a player is gonna make it, might as well get something. A second round pick downgraded to a sixth, but Maloney wasn't exactly much of a drafter, so what'cha gonna do?
