In 2007 the Coyotes had their highest ever draft pick - the 3rd overall selection.

Only once more, when they took Dylan Strome 3rd in 2015, have the Coyotes had such a high pick.

Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the best drafts and they didn't get the kind of franchise altering player they should have.

They took Kyle Turris - who comes in today as the 40th best player in franchise history - but they could have taken Logan Couture or Jakob Voracek.

Draft picks are always crap shoots though, and Kyle Turris was a good pick at 3rd overall. Had he worked out for Arizona, he'd probably be in the top ten or twenty of this list.

Turris never lived up to the true potential of his talent, and he was traded to Ottawa after parts of four seasons.

Turris is an extremely underrated player who brings more to the table than just decent offensive skills. He's pretty much always been a positive possession player relative to his team, and he has two seasons of excellent first-line production in his career, with the rest being very good second line production.

For four years in Ottawa he was a consistent 60 point threat, with a career high of 64. Turris always had the talent that left you wanting more, but he's put together a good career as a solid #2 center.

David Rundblad and a second round pick was used in a trade to get Antoine Vermette from Columbus. In retrospect it was a brutal trade for the Coyotes. I really liked Rundblad at the time, and he always put up great stats whenever he played, but he just never worked out.

Turris is 81st in Coyotes history (quanthockey.com) in total points, but I rank him 40th because even though he only wore the sweater for a while, he was one of the most talented players to ever wear it.

Taken

Taken came out in 2009, and was a cultural phenomenon on par with the Bartman and the Macarena.

Sometimes I will list the entire franchise - as is the case of the Mission Impossibles - but in this case, Taken is the only film to make the list. The rest of the trilogy is watchable, but not really vital.

This movie works because a) it re-invents an Oscar winning dramatic actor as a cheesy action superstar, and b) because it's visceral and plays on our fears and how we'd imagine we'd like to react to them.

It's a ____ awesome 90 minute fantasy in which you get to see dozens of nameless sex offenders destroyed by Schindler himself.

It's one of the best movies ever made, and I say that with zero percent irony.

Recently I saw on old Seinfeld episode where George bought Jon Voight's old LeBaron, and they made a joke about it being a bigger deal if he had bought a real actor's car, like Liam Neeson.

The best part of this movie is how it precipitated so many more great action movies starring Neeson. Taken isn't even the best one, but the Grey, two taken sequels, the Commuter, and the one I've seen six times but always think I haven't seen it before and watch it again, where Neesen goes to a hotel, forgets his luggage then forgets who he is.

It's so hilariously generic I can never remember it, but it's still good.

Perhaps I'm underrating it, but today we're naming Taken the 40th best film ever made.
