Weather Getting Colder, NY Heads to Florida (because its the law)

Seinfeld Joke in the title....(just in case you were curious...)

The FIRST PLACE NY Islanders start back to back games in the Sunshine State tonight as they take on the red hot Lightning followed by the inconsistently struggling Florida Panthers... (actually they are pretty consistent with their struggles...)

As for struggling...Last year both of these teams gave the Isles fits, but in very different ways.

Against the Bolts the Isles went 1-2 in VERY high-scoring affairs...I watched one of these games this morning and it was pretty damn entertaining if you love skill and offense. Over the three games in '17-18 the Islanders scored 13 goals and gave up...ready for this...SIXTEEN GOALS! That's right... over 5 goals a game against Tampa ...But the glass half full part of this is the 13 scored..and how they scored them... if Barry Trotz' Isles can continue their defensive mastery they at least know they can fill the net in Tampa.... Also, of those 13 scored goals last year...only 1 came from John Tavares. It was really the Lee, Bailey, Barzal show last year with the three combining for 5 goals and 8 helpers...13 points in 3 games!

The Isles also went 1-2 versus the Panthers, but only scored 6 goals (5 in one game) while allowing 13. The Panthers are back from Europe and starting to look like they have some life in them including one time Islander (too soon?) Roberto Luongo...

Lou Lamoriello was on FAN590 in Toronto yesterday and gave a really great, and Long interview...I will be dissecting this one as soon as I can (I consider myself a bit of a Lamoriello whisperer) for now...Listen here:

Ek's note...During the game I will stop in the comments section to discuss the game and more...feel free to add input in the comments as to what you would like me to get into with the Isles...I am working on a story about Mitch Korn....I have known him for a long time and there is a VERY strong reason that Trotz brings him wherever he goes...
