The Habs Forward Lines

By Ryan Snow

With all the additions made during the summer, I think it's safe to say Kent Hughes is done adding to the Habs and will start the season with the forwards he traded for and signed over the summer. The following are the lines I would have on opening night.

Line 1

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky

The line had a lot of success last year, so I don't see any reason to break it up unless they swap Slafkovsky and Demidov. But, they work well together on the forecheck, and each utilize their strengths to form a cohesive unit

Line 2

Laine-Dach-Demidov

If this line can get going, they will rack up points like crazy. Demidov has the skill and patience to feed Laine prime shooting opportunities and Dach has the body to retrieve pucks down low if he feels like it. There is a lot of offensive skill on this line, my worry is their willingness to play the Habs system day in day out. The one I’m least worried about is Demidov.

Line 3

Bolduc-Newhook-Veleno

Like I mentioned previously this line has speed, grit, offense and play a two hundred foot game. This line will be the key to giving the first two lines insolation when it comes to scoring and matchups. They can be used in all situations and will play the Habs system perfectly. Good job Hughes.

Line 4

Anderson-Evan-Gallagher

Another great line that uses speed, tenacity and they all just never give up. Each of them can also chip in with some offence to go with a good defensive game, especially Evans. This is not your typical fourth line but more like another third line, and I don’t expect them to play 9 minutes a night.

All in all, I find the Habs have a great balance up front, and they have a better team than last year. Hughes did an amazing job.
