I am hearing five teams are in on Gardiner, but that two are really standing out: The Florida Panthers (E3) and Calgary Flames (E5). The other teams still involved are the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and New Jersey Devils.
It sounds like Gardiner is waiting for a team to make a move and clear some cap space. A source texted me: "There are offers from at least three teams, but the most significant is the team he is waiting to clear space. And that team I believe is Florida."
Along those lines...
Sources are telling me the Panthers have been talking to Edmonton and Philly about forward Mike Hoffman. Edmonton is very interested and it sounds like a deal was getting close, then Philly jumped in and got involved. Sounds like if something is going to get done, then it gets done this week.
On Patrik Laine...
The Jets and Laine are still talking but I don't get any sense (AT ALL) that a big trade is off the table. There is talk today that not only Montreal has discussed the possibility of acquiring Laine (although I would still call them the favorite should the Jets go that direction). I have yet to hear the exact other teams who have talked to the Jets, but I am making lots of calls.
