LTIR Money On the Rise Could Mean Trades. Who Has The Most LTIR? |

When the last collective-bargaining agreement was signed by the NHL and the NHLPA those of us who love trades and rumors were given a gift. Initially when the league went to a salary cap I was afraid I’d be out of a job. How can teams make trades with a cap? Well the great gift that keeps giving is called long-term injury reserve. The NHL’s way to allow teams to replace players salaries who aren’t playing because of injuries long-term.
This hasn’t been without controversy of course. Example: Tampa.
So this year already only a month and we have several players who have been placed on injury reserve and Space opened up. But who has the most money, and what might they do with it?
Currently 14 teams have cap space due to this loophole.
The big winner today with $8.6 million in cap spaced is The Carolina hurricanes.
There are two teams next up with around 5.5 million apiece. The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers.
The Los Angeles Kings are sitting with $4 million in cap space due to LTIR
While Tampa, never wanting to be outdone, has 3.5 million.
The Montréal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Washington Capitals set right around 3 million.
