Nico Sturm and Gerry Mayhew both were sent to Iowa yesterday mainly because they could be sent there and that being the 13th and 14th forwards with the big club would be detrimental to their development.

Both players deserved a shot at sticking with the Wild and each of them will be counted on to fill an injury void when the opportunity comes. They also are pushing the current roster for there shot.

In the shirt term not the outcome either player wanted to hear however for the Minnesota Wild it is great to see that there is more quality depth within the organization.

As for JT Brown and Victor Rask the writing on the wall is clear they both need to step up their game if they want to continue to play in the league.

Drew Stafford was released from his PTO purely the result of a numbers game. Stafford played well enough to earn a spot however with the contract situations of Brown and Rask combined with the number if veterans the Iowa Wild have there just was not room for the Edina native.

The Wild still have to trim the roster however the status of defenseman, Greg Pateryn and his lower body injury has opened the door for either Carson Soucy or Louie Belpedio to begin the year in Minnesota.

One final tune up tomorrow for the Wild and then the real fun begins.
