Parise's Wild Future

Living in Minnesota, watching and learning how fans of the local teams react to the ups and downs, with more downs since the last championship when the Twins won the World Series in 1991.

I get the sense that everyone is always waiting for the other shoe to drop or to complain that the star always goes somewhere else. However if one of the local heroes is sent packing off to a new destination in a move to make the team better in the long run the grudge is held onto seemingly forever.

The Athletic's, Michael Russo, sat down recently with Zach Parise to discuss his time with the Wild and his hockey future now at age 35. Parise alluded to the fact that he wants nothing more than a shot at winning the Stanley Cup and that his realization is that is looking less likely with his hometown squad.

So would Zach accept a trade? It has been speculated that Paul Fenton has explored and is continuing to explore all the options with his entire roster. So what would the State of Hockey faithful think or do if their beloved native son, Zach Parise, was dealt?

Remember that it is all about winning in pro sports. Would the fans embrace the move to help the Wild get better for the future, while at the same time offering Parise a chance at having his name etched into Lord Stanley's Cup?

The immediate reaction would undoubtedly be negative toward Fenton and most likely a PR nightmare for the Wild GM. However those same fans are the first to refer to the Parise and Suter contracts as the single biggest factor holding the Wild back.

So which is it, because one cannot have it both ways?
