Hoping Koivu Gets More Meaningful Wild Games

I don't like to think about the 2020 NHL season not resuming, but with all that is going on we know that is a very real scenario.

So if the season is not going to resume what does that mean for Mikko Koivu's future with the Wild and is his career going to end this way?

It is apparent that the Wild need to get younger and faster and even in Koivu wanted to return for another season it is highly unlikely that would be here in the State of Hockey. We know that Koivu would not waive his no movement clause at the deadline it is apparent that Mikko does not wish to play anywhere else.

Koivu had finally embraced his role on the 4th line after the February 24th trade deadline and has been instrumental in the playoff push the Wild were in the midst of before the shutdown.

Mikko has been a huge part of the Minnesota Wild franchise across most of their 20 year existence. The captain since 2009 and has been the consummate professional throughout. He is the leader that each of his head coaches relied upon through every key situation both on and off the ice.

Yes, his speed has dipped in the past couple of seasons but no one can ever question the work ethic of the captain nor his level of compete which is second to none.

Let's hope for obvious reasons that we have not seen the last of #9 on the ice in meaningful games with the only NHL team for which he has laced his skates up for.

Of course there are far more important issues than sports and entertainment as we all work vigilantly to stay safe and protect the health and safety of those around us.

Stay vigilant everyone and we will make it through this and come out stronger on the other side.
