Ho Hum Wild Host Inspired Flyers

So if we learned anything from Sunday it is that the Wild cannot bury their chances when the game is on the line. A chance to steal a point and maybe two on the road in a game that they were thoroughly outplayed, the Wild came up short.

There were numerous opportunities in the third period where it appeared that the Wild were going to cash in the equalizer, but no one could finish

That is the story of the 2018-19 Minnesota Wild, they can't finish.

Tonight the Wild get the Flyers, who played last night at home, losing to the Penguins 4-1. While the Wild rested the Flyers played and had to travel.

The Flyers have turned things around, winning 10 of their last 13 (10-2-1) including a 7-4 victory over the Wild back in January. Chuck Fletcher's team has clawed their way back into the race for a playoff berth in the tough Eastern Conference, while the Wild have miraculously managed to hold onto the final playoff position in the ever tightening Western Conference, winning just five of 11 (5-4-2) since that loss to in Philadelphia.

The message has been made clear from head coach Bruce Boudreau, take care of business on the ice now and get on a roll, or it is an early golf season for the team.

Paul Fenton has sent his own message that he is going to make changes to the roster, and it doesn't matter as he has no ownership of the roster as it stands now. He is all about winning and building a winning organization that is not just good for a season or two.

He is working his way through the process, but I feel his mind is made up as far as what this team is and where they could be going. I think he knows full well this Wild team is a borderline playoff team in a weak Western Conference with little hope of winning a playoff round.

The question is does he make significant moves to make his team better for that playoff run while not sacrificing any future value, or does he continue the process of breaking up the younger veteran core of Granlund, Coyle, Zucker, Brodin, or Spurgeon following last minth's trade of Nino Niederreiter?

Tonight is a game the Wild should be ready for and the effort out of the gate will tell us everything that we need to know.

A gettable two points for the Wild against a very hungry Flyers team.

It's always Hockey Day in The State of Hockey!
