Fenton Busy as Wild Return From Break

Some will say that the Wild's extended All Star break came at the worst time, as the team was riding a three game win streak and some of their more disappointing players were heating up.

The three straight wins coming over solid opponents, Columbus at home and then consecutive road wins in Vegas and Colorado before the boys left for vacation.

Eric Staal tallied 3 goals and 3 assists, and Charlie Coyle added 2 goals and 2 helpers of his own in the three wins. Both players have been very inconsistent this season and for Coyle much longer than just the current campaign.

The break may have come at just the right time given the Wild are the oldest team in the NHL, with several key veterans logging big minutes a break before the final push could serve them well.

Either way the team needs to be ready to go as the schedule is jam packed with 14 games over the next 26 days beginning tomorrow night in Dallas.

Paul Fenton continued his organizational moves yesterday dealing defenseman, Ryan Murphy, to Newa Jersey for left shot defenseman, Michael Kapla, the Eau Claire, WI native.

Kapla is 6'0", 200lb defenseman that has offensive ability. This is a move that impacts the Iowa Wild in the short term but Kapla provides some more organizational depth on the blueline.

It was clear that the UFA, Murphy was not in the Wild plans moving forward and Fenton made the move to bring in Kapla who is an RFA at season's end.

With the recent moves Fenton has made, the roster currently sits at 23, with the expected return of Eric Fehr tomorrow night. That means that unless some roster movement is made, neither Luke Kunin, nor Joel Eriksson Ek will be recalled from Iowa.

Looking forward to an exciting February as the Wild make the push for their seventh straight playoff berth, and what changes are in store for the roster leading up to the February 25th trade deadline.
