Can Wild Get Lucky In Vegas

Until the Wild are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, their goal will remain the same That is of course, take care of their own business in the ice.

Sitting four points behind Colorado with five games to play the situation is looking very bleak. However if Arizona can upend the Avalanche tonight in regulation and the Wild win in Vegas it would become a two point differential with the Coyotes and Avalanche both at 83 points.

With the Wild heading to Arizona for a Sunday matchup that could have bigger playoff implications if the above scenario plays out tonight.

All of that said on the flip side of the equation and looking at the alternative a Wild loss in Vegas and whatever happens Colorado the Wild would likely be all but left for dead in the playoff race.

Playing that scenario the scoreboard watching becomes a little bit different. Looking at it from do you not want the Wild to make the playoffs and finish as low in the standings as possible last night was a great night on the scoreboard.

Chicago and Vancouver each won and Edmonton gained a point in a shootout loss in Dallas. Chicago's win moved them within a point of the Wild, while Edmonton is just 2 points back and Vancouver 3 back.

It is all about perspective and of course maybe me looking for some sort of silver lining to the end or at least what feels like the end of the 2018-19 Minnesota Wild season as we enter the next to last weekend of the regular season.

We know that the Wild roster is changing and that Paul Fenton has set up the cap situation to be able to be in position to make significant changes in the offseason. Combine that with getting back Matt Dumba and the progression of Luke Kunin. Joel Eriksson Ek, and Jordan Greenway along with the new additions of Kevin Fiala and Ryan Donato their is definite hope for the future.

Tonight is still all about making the push to the playoffs for the Wild in Vegas.

It's always Hockey Day in The State of Hockey!
