My Takeaways:

Ovechkin Hat Trick History – I mean…are you kidding me?! Ovechkin continues his tear to start the 2021-2022 NHL season. Ovechkin recorded his 28th career Hat Trick. He is now tied with Marcel Dionne and Bobby Hull for 6th most hat tricks in NHL history. For reference, Gretzky is 1st with 50 and Lemieux is second with 48 hat tricks. The next closest active player in number of hat tricks is Evgeni Malkin with 12 hat tricks. Ovechkin also now has 153 multi-goal games which is good for 4th all-time. He is only one multi-goal game away from tying Mario Lemieux for 3rd all time. Of Ovechkin’s 28 hat tricks, he has three of them against FLA which is tied for the most he has against a single team. Lastly, Ovechkin scored a PPG tonight which puts him at 273 PPG in his career. He now sits just ONE power play goal away from tying Dave Andreychuk for 1st in NHL history. We are truly blessed to be able to watch Ovi play night in and night out.

Panthers Streaking -The Panthers now sit at 14-3-3. They have lost six straight road games dating all the way back to 10/30 @ BOS. Even with this road losing streak, they are still statistically one of the best teams in the league with 31 points in 20 GP. On the bright side for the Panthers they have a chance to set the NHL record for most consecutive wins on home ice to start a season. On Wednesday against the Flyers, Florida tied the 1963-1964 Chicago Blackhawks with 11 straight wins to open a season on home ice. The Panthers have a chance to stand alone in the record books with 12 straight wins when the host the Seattle Kraken tomorrow night. Both teams will be playing a back to back. The Kraken have been playing better hockey as of late with wins over WSH and CAR.

Three Points for Three Players – Ovechkin had 3G. Kuznetsov had 3A and Tom Wilson had 1G-2A. The trio continues to be hot and carry a bulk of the offense during this stretch of great hockey. This production comes at a key time as the Capitals continue to get bit by the injury bug. Notable guys from the Hersey Bears that were in the lineup tonight were Protas, Malenstyn, Sgarbossa, Leason, and Cholowski. Protas has been an integral part of the Caps lineup lately. He had two assists tonight and continues to play some great hockey with tons of ice time. Protas has also been plugged into the top power play unit and has looked good in the process. Keep giving the kid ice time! Kuznetsov had a sneaky game with three assists. He continues to be one of the Capitals best players this season. He currently sits 4th in the NHL with 27 points in 21 GP.

Next Up the Capitals head to Carolina for a 1pm tilt against the best team in the league! This will be a great test!
