The Detroit Red Wings claimed forward Jacob De La Rose off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. De La Rose had been on IRL since suffering a cardiac episode following a Sept. 29 preseason game, but was cleared to practice. He had been skating with the Canadiens but hadn't played yet this season. He will be required to pass a physical and get a U.S. work visa before he can play for the Detroit.

Defenseman Libor Sulak was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids to make room for De La Rose on the 23-player roster. Sulak became expendable because Trevor Daley was cleared to return to action. Daley had missed four games after being kneed in the head during a game at Los Angeles.

Svechnikov’s Season Over
Forward Evgeni Svechnikov, Detroit's top pick (19th overall) in the 2015 NHL entry draft, underwent surgery to reconstruct his right anterior cruciate ligament on Tuesday and will be out 5-6 months. The procedure was performed by Dr. Kyle Anderson.

Svechnikov, 21, suffered a knee injury Sept. 29 in Detroit’s final preseason game and had been placed on injured reserve on Oct.1. Svechnikov has 2-2-4 totals in 16 NHL games with Detroit.

DeKeyser Update
While not nearly that bad, the news on the status of defenseman Danny DeKeyser did not offer the promise of a rapid return.

“He saw a hand specialist,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told Mlive.com. “This isn’t anything right now that requires surgery. It’s a little bit of a symptom of when the pain goes to a spot, then he can handle it and play.

“I don’t have the answer on how long that’s going to be. I think the term a week and a half to two weeks was thrown out there but I don’t know if that’s totally accurate. It’s just going to depend on how it responds.”

Green News
Defenseman Mike Green (viral infection of liver) is progressing toward a return to action, but is still a ways away from suiting up for a game.

“He had a real long skate yesterday,”” Blashill said. “He’s going to come on the trip because he wants to be around the guys and skate with the players a little bit more. Hopefully we’ll get an answer on where his blood work is. He had some more blood work done today and we just keep being patient with it until he gets his body back to a spot where he can really go full out.

“Nothing in the future where I can say he’s coming back here or there but he’s starting to go in right direction.”
