The Flyers dug themselves too deep of a hole as a three-goal blitz in the third period was not enough to overcome a cavernous deficit in a 4-3 loss to the Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday night. The Flyers dropped to 3-2-1 on the preseason with two games to go.

Boston dressed essentially an AHL lineup against a squad mostly comprised of Flyers' regulars but notably outworked the Flyers in the first period in building a 2-0 lead. The Flyers controlled the majority of the play over the final 40 minutes but found themselves in a 4-0 hole before the too-little-too-late comeback bid in the third period.

Peter Cehlerik, Brandon Carlo and Chris Wagner (shorthanded) scored for Boston. Claude Giroux had a power play goal and an assist for Philly in the third period push. Earlier, he made a beautiful saucer pass to Travis Konecny for a point blank chance that hit the inside of the goal post and stayed out of the net. Konecny later took a feed from Giroux and scored the goal than cut the gap to 4-3. The run got started with a shorthanded goal on a 2-on-1. Michael Raffl forced a neutral zone turnover and then set up Dale Weise to get Philly on the board.

Brian Elliott, who entered the game having played one preseason period, went the distance in goal, stopping 24 of 28 shots. Dan Vladar carried a shutout for 48-plus minutes, ultimately making 34 saves on 37 shots.

The Flyers went 1-for-3 on the power play with a shorthanded goal yielded and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill with a shorthanded goal scored.

The team will have an off-day on Tuesday. Roster cuts are expected.
