SCRIMMAGE SYNOPSIS

Team Orange skated to a 4-2 win in a 50-minute scrimmage (two halves of 25-minutes apiece), breaking a 2-2 tie at the halfway point. The first-half goals were scored by Tyson Foerster (Black), Andy Andreoff (Orange), Oskar Lindblom (Black) and Linus Sandin (Orange). Ivan Provorov (Orange) put his side ahead to stay midway through the second half, before Joel Farabee (Orange) added an empty-net insurance goal.

Wednesday's scrimmage was the most physical -- by a wide margin --of the three played so far. Samuel Morin in particular threw his weight around with abandon. But there was a lot of hitting throughout the game.

Foerster gave Team Black a 1-0 lead on a deflection goal that may have actually been a double-deflection. Andreoff knotted the score shortly thereafter on a penalty shot that beat Brian Elliott through the five hole. Lindblom restored a one-goal margin for Team Black as he hammered a shot from a tough angle in the left circle that beat Hart up high. Countryman Sandin forged a 2-2 tie after a James van Riemsdyk pass across the slot found him and Sandin tipped it home in front.

Provorov's goal was scored on a 2-on-1 opportunity. Farabee added an empty-net goal late in the scrimmage.

There was a nervous moment in the second half when Morin attempted to throw a check on Max Willman and accidentally made heavy contact with Nolan Patrick. Fortunately, Patrick went back to the bench and, after sitting at the end of the bench for a short time, went to the middle and got ready for his next shift. Patrick seemed no worse for the wear afterwards.

Patrick in general had a strong day on the ice. Before the collision with Morin, he was initiating contact and was effective on both sides of the puck. On the defensive end, Phil Myers had an excellent day. Myers won the vast majority of his battles throughout.

At one juncture early in the second half, Claude Giroux was awarded a penalty shot after being fouled by Justin Braun. As Giroux moved in on the penalty shot, Braun caught up to him on the back check and took him off the puck. Giroux cross-checked Braun in the corner in response and then drilled Wyatte Wylie at the other end.

SHOOTOUT SYNOPSIS

All shooters -- Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Kevin Hayes, Nolan Patrick, James van Riemsdyk, Travis Konecny, Morgan Frost, Erik Gustafsson and Ivan Provorov -- shot at least five times. A few went for a sixth attempt.

JVR led all players with three successful attempts. The prettiest goal was one by Patrick, who pulled off a "reverse Forsberg". Gustafsson scored twice. Everyone except Hayes and Frost (who had Elliott beaten on one attempt but then tucked the puck wide) converted at least one attempt in Wednesday's shootout session.

Thursday will be a complete off-day in camp.
