1) The Philadelphia Flyers Warrior Hockey team has created a donation raffle in conjunction with the Flyers. The raffle drawing, for which a pair of full-season lower-level Flyers tickets (section 122) is the grand prize, will be held on Sept. 16. One raffle ticket entry costs $20, three entries are $50. 3) Today in Flyers history: On July 21, 2008, the Flyers signed right winger Joffrey Lupul to a four-year contract extension. Lupul was coming off a season in which, despite being limited to 56 games by a spinal cord contusion, concussion, and a high ankle sprain, he still managed 20 goals and 46 points during the regular season. His season highlights included a pair of hat tricks (vs. Pittsburgh and Carolina) spaced four days apart. In the playoffs, which most notably included scoring the Game 7 winner in overtime at Washington, Lupul produced 10 points in 17 games.
In 2008-08, Lupul posted 25 goals and 50 points on a line with Jeff Carter and Scott Hartnell. He was traded after the season to Anaheim as part of the deal that brought Chris Pronger to the Flyers.
4) July 21 Flyers Alumni birthday: The late "Cowboy" Bill Flett (1943-1999) was born on this day in Vermillion, Alberta.
