Quick Hits: September 19, 2021

1) Rookie Game 1: The Flyers prospects defeated their New York Rangers counterparts, 6-3, at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown, NY, on Saturday afternoon in the first match of back-to-back Rookie games.

Tyson Foerster and Linus Sandin scored two goals apiece for the Flyers. Sandin (2g, 1a) and Morgan Frost (empty-net goal, two assists) both enjoyed three-point games. The Flyers also received a goal from defenseman Ethan Samson and two assists apiece from fellow blueliners Egor Zamula and Wyatte Wylie. Isaac Ratcliffe chipped in one helper. Wade Allison dropped the gloves with 6-foot-8 Matt Rempe and fared just fine despite giving up six inches and about 20 pounds.

2) The Flyers rookies and will rematch on Sunday from the Flyers Training Center at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Game time is 5 p.m. ET. The Flyers will stream the game; possibly with play-by-play broadcasting as well. The game can be viewed on YouTube . Lineups will be posted when available.

On the Flyers' side, look for Samuel Ersson to get the start on Sunday. Cam York and Tanner Laczynski are slated to play in this game, along with Brian Zanetti and tryout defenseman Quinn Schmiemann.

3) When the regular season begins in October, the Flyers will open with a four-game homestand before embarking on a western Canada road trip. Over the first four games, the Flyers will host the Vancouver Canucks (Oct. 15), Seattle Kraken (Oct. 18), Boston Bruins (Oct. 20) and Florida Panthers (Oct. 23). For a look at the particular challenges presented by each of the first four opponents, click here.

4) The Flyers Warriors are holding training camp simultaneously with the Flyers Rookie Camp in Voorhees. Longtime Flyers beat writer Wayne Fish accepted an invitation to be a participating player in the Warriors' camp, around which he's writing a firsthand account for his Flying Fish Hockey blog. Wayne, an avid athlete who participates in marathons and long-distance bicycling events and, back in his collegiate years, played hockey for Colorado State University, admitted that it was tough keeping up with the pace at practice.

5) Sept. 19 Flyers Alum birthday: Gilbert Dionne (1970), Scott Daniels (1969), Josh Gratton (1982), Joni Pitkänen (1982), Nolan Patrick (1998).
