Quick Hits: Feb. 14, 2019

1) The Flyers return to practice at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Thursday at noon, as they begin preparations for the start of a weekend home-and-home set with the Detroit Red Wings. Philly received no help on Wednesday from the Edmonton Oilers, who dropped a 3-1 road decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a result, the Flyers once again fell eight points (plus a 29-24 ROW tiebreaker disadvantage) behind the Penguins in the race for the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

2) On Thursday, the Flyers announced that they have sent defenseman Samuel Morin to the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms on a conditioning stint as he enters the final phases of his recovery from a ACL surgery last spring. Morin is on a six day/three game assignment and does not have to be activated from the injured reserve list (same conditions as goaltender Brian Elliott). If the Flyers so chose, they could wait until after the trade deadline to activate Morin onto their active NHL roster.

3) The Phantoms have a busy weekend ahead: a classic AHL three-in-three gauntlet with a home game on Friday vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, an away game in Hershey on Saturday, and then a home game on Sunday (at 5:05 p.m. ET) against Hershey. Elliott will be in goal for one or two of the games. The Phantoms should also have new arrivals Byron Froese and David Schlemko in the lineup this weekend.

4) Coming off a weekend set against Niagara and London that saw him rack up seven points (two goals, five assists), Flyers' 2017 first-round pick Morgan Frost returns to action on Thursday night when the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are on the road to take on the North Bay Battalion. Leading the Ontario Hockey League with an average 1.91 points per game, Frost has compiled 88 points (34 goals, 54 assists) in 46 games played this season.

5) Tickets are still available for the Feb. 22 Alumni Showdown Game at the Class of 1923 Rink between the Flyers Alumni Team (featuring Scott Hartnell, Danny Briere, Nick Schultz, Brian Boucher, Brad Marsh, Joe Watson and many more) against the Snider Hockey Alumni. All proceeds benefit the Class of 1923 Arena renovation project on behalf of Snider Hockey. Doors open at 6 p.m. and opening faceoff is at 7 p.m. ET. All tickets cost $15.
