Quick Hits: July 16, 2021

Tomorrow, the Flyers must submit by 5 p.m. their list of protected players for the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. It likely that the Flyers will protect seven forwards (Claude Giroux, Kevin Hayes, Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, Oskar Lindblom, and Nolan Patrick), three defensemen (Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim and Phil Myers) plus goaltender Carter Hart.
Roster-move wise, it's not going out on a limb here to predict that pretty much anything that Chuck Fletcher may do over the next few weeks is bound to be polarizing. That's understandable after what happened in 2020-21. However, a general manager can't worry about knee-jerk reactions on social media, message boards and talk radio.
Ahead of the Expansion Draft, the current installment of the Offseason Inventory series on the Flyers official website looks the veteran core group of Giroux, Couturier, Jakub Voracek, Hayes, and James van Riemsdyk). 2) Yesterday, the Flyers announced their annual Community Caravan, featuring appearances by members of the Flyers Alumni (Brad Marsh, Bob Kelly, and perhaps some special guests), Gritty, the Flyers Ice Team and in-arena host Andrea Helfrich.
The kick-off event will be held on Tue. July 20 in North Wildwood, NJ. At 5:00 p.m. EDT, the Community Caravan route starts at 1st & New Jersey Avenues then proceeds East on 1st Avenue to Surf Avenue. The route continues South on Surf Avenue to 13th Avenue and will turn East onto to JFK Blvd, where it will proceed to 2nd and New Jersey Avenue. The route will end at the Municipal Lot at 1st & New Jersey Avenues.
