Game 65 Preview: Flyers vs. Hurricanes

John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (24-29-11) are in Raleigh on Thursday to take on Rod Brind'Amour's Carolina Hurricanes (42-12-18) at PNC Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. ET.

This is the third of four meetings this season between the teams and the second and final game in Carolina. The season series will conclude at the Wells Fargo Center on March 18. The Flyers are 0-1-1 to date against the Hurricanes.

The Flyers enter this game coming off a 5-2 road loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Morgan Frost (12th) and Brendan Lemieux (1st) scored in a losing cause for Philly, while Carter Hart stopped 34 of 39 shots.

The Flyers made two "emergency conditions" recalls from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms earlier today: forwards Elliot Desnoyers and Tyson Foerster. The latter has yet to play an NHL game, while has dressed in two to date and accounted well for himself.

Both players will be in the Flyers' starting lineup tonight. Per Tortorella, both Wade Allison and Brendan Lemieux are banged up and unavailable to play tonight. Both players are day-to-day but it was sufficient (even with Kieffer Bellows available) to trigger emergency condition recalls that will not burn up regular post-deadline recalls.

Additionally, seldom-used backup goalie Felix Sandström will get the start in goal for the Flyers. It's a tough spot for Sandström to face one of the NHL's top teams but he needs games. The Swedish netminder has only played in one game (Feb. 13 against Seattle) since the All-Star break and two games (Jan 22 vs Jets, Feb. 13) since his two-week conditioning assignment to the Phantoms ended.

The Hurricanes enter this game coming off a 4-3 (3-2) road shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. The team acquired former Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere (three games played to date) and forward Jesse Puljujärvi prior to last Friday's NHL trade deadline. It remains to be seen if Puljujärvi will dress against Philly.
