The Carolina Hurricanes played three games this week and made a couple of trades. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

HURRICANES WIN TWO OF THREE GAMES

The Hurricanes won two of three games this week, losing 3-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, before sweeping a two-game series against the Dallas Stars.

HURRICANES DEAL DZINGEL TO SENATORS, ACQUIRE GALCHENYUK AND PAQUETTE

The Hurricanes made a notable trade this week, dealing forward Ryan Dzingel to the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk and Cedric Paquette. The deal was likely made for the Hurricanes to clear cap space and Galchenyuk has already been placed on waivers by the Hurricanes.

HURRICANES TRADE HOFMANN TO BLUE JACKETS FOR PICK

In a less notable move, the Hurricanes traded the rights to forward Gregory Hofmann to the Columbus Blue Jackets, in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2022. Hofmann is 28 years old and has yet to play an NHL game.

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Were you happy with Alex Nedeljkovic’s performance in his first start of the season?

(Votes: 27)

Yes: 44%
Don’t feel strongly either way: 41%
No: 15%

I thought Nedeljkovic was alright in his first start, though he couldn’t really come up with the key saves that the Hurricanes needed. It’ll be interesting to see whether he’ll be able to establish himself as a legitimate NHL goaltender as the season progresses.

QUESTION: Which player’s hot start have you been more surprised by?

(Votes: 30)

Vincent Trocheck: 73%
Jordan Staal: 27%

Trocheck has been great, but I don’t think anyone could have predicted that Staal would start this well, even with the lines being mixed up. That said, both centers have been great so far for Carolina.

QUESTION: Do you think Carolina’s trade with Ottawa was a good one for the Hurricanes?

(Votes: 229)

Yes: 66%
No: 34%

The Hurricanes were able to create some cap space and losing Dzingel really isn’t going to hurt the team. He wasn’t really a fit with Carolina and perhaps they’ll be able to make an upgrade in net, with the extra cap flexibility.
