Carolina Hurricanes prospect Vasiliy Ponomarev has been named to Russia’s final roster for the 2021 World Junior Championship.

Ponomarev was selected by the Hurricanes with the 53rd overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft. He’s currently playing with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes, where he has five goals and nine points in nine games to start the season.

Ponomarev was one of 14 forwards named to Russia’s final roster.

As for other Hurricanes prospects who are still competing to play in the tournament, Noel Gunler and Zion Nybeck both remain with Team Sweden, though the team’s roster is not yet finalized. We also learned yesterday that Ryan Suzuki will represent Canada, while Seth Jarvis and Jamieson Rees were cut from Team Canada’s final roster.
