Longtime Los Angeles Kings forward Trevor Lewis will be joining the Winnipeg Jets' training camp on a professional tryout.

Lewis, who’s now 33 years old, was with the Kings organization since being selected 17th overall by the team in the 2006 NHL Draft. He played with the Kings in parts of 12 seasons and was with the team for their Stanley Cup wins in both 2012 and 2014.

While Lewis was a key member of the team for many years, bringing him back for another season just wouldn’t have made sense for the Kings. He’s nearing his mid-thirties and given the Kings’ rebuild, it makes more sense to use the lineup spot to integrate a younger player into the lineup.

The fact that Lewis didn't get a contract in free agency shows how brutal the market is right now. He can still be an effective bottom-six forward and could bring good value on a one-year deal.

Lewis played a total of 674 games with the Kings, scoring 70 goals and 163 points.
