The San Jose Sharks have placed forward Evander Kane on unconditional waivers, for the purpose of contract termination.

According to The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, the basis of the termination is in regards to Kane travelling to Vancouver after testing positive for COVID-19.

Kane is 30 years old and has been with the organization since 2018. He’s spent the beginning of the season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, scoring two goals and eight points in five games. Kane's contract carries a $7 million cap hit until 2025.

He had also served a 21-game suspension to start the season, as a result of violating the COVID protocols and was waived by the Sharks following the suspension.

Both Kane’s agent, Dan Milstein, and the NHLPA have noted intent to file a grievance in regards to the situation.
