Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Which signing are you more excited about?

(Votes: 71)

Melnichuk: 92%
Handemark: 8%

Yeah, Melnichuk for sure on this one. He projects as a future NHL goalie and potentially a starter. He’s also still just 21 years old. Handemark may be a nice addition but he’s only likely to be a bottom-six forward at best and is already 26 years old. Regardless, it’s nice to see the Sharks attracting some free agents from Europe.

QUESTION: Other than Pavelski, which late-round pick are you most impressed by?

(Votes: 105)

Braun: 28%
Labanc: 27%
Bonino: 22%
DeMelo: 11%
Wingels: 7%
Demers: 4%
Someone else: 2%

It’s not shocking to see it down to Braun, Labanc and Bonino. Bonino and Braun have both been contributing players for their respective teams, while Labanc is still young enough to have quite a high ceiling if he finds more consistency in his game. Wilson’s ability to find these late-round draft picks will be key for the Sharks as they try to manage their cap situation.

QUESTION: Do you hope Melker Karlsson is back with the Sharks next season?

(Votes: 70)

No: 70%
Yes: 30%

This is where I’m at too, obviously. It’s not that I dislike Karlsson, I just think he’s not going to be part of the future and it’s better to either bring in players who can contribute right now or bring up players who can start adjusting to the NHL. Even if he’d take a cheaper deal, I’m not a fan of him taking up a spot in the lineup.
