Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Which team do you think has the better forward group?

(Votes: 226)

New York: 69%
Carolina: 31%

Headlined by Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad, the Rangers are strong up front and aren’t going to have any trouble scoring. Carolina may have the better bottom-six but based on their top five forwards, the Rangers have the advantage when it comes to forwards.

QUESTION: Do you wish the Hurricanes had signed Luke Henman?

(Votes: 43)

I don’t feel strongly either way: 56%
Yes: 37%
No: 7%

Yeah, this is where I’m at too. It was a bit weird to see them not sign him, considering how how many spots they have left for new contracts but I don’t think they’ll end up regretting their decision to let him walk.

QUESTION: Which team do you believe has the stronger defense?

(Votes: 124)

Carolina: 83%
New York: 17%

The Rangers may have the stronger forwards but it’s not surprising to see such a majority voting for the Hurricanes here. Carolina has one of the best defense groups in the NHL that only got stronger at the trade deadline and while New York’s blue line isn’t poor, Carolina’s is just stacked.

QUESTION: Which team do you think will have the better goaltending in the series?

(Votes: 127)

New York: 85%
Carolina: 15%

Like with the defense comparison, there’s not much debate here. All three of New York’s goalies are a better option than either of Carolina’s and if there’s one major area of weakness the Hurricanes should be concerned about heading into the series, it’s in net.
