Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. I’m a day late, but here are the poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Who do you think should get the final spot in the Hurricanes' lineup?

(Votes: 131)

Fleury: 56%
Gardiner: 44%

Considering Dougie Hamilton has gotten injured in the time since I wrote the article that this poll was included in, it looks increasingly likely that both Haydn Fleury and Jake Gardiner will have a spot in the lineup for the qualifying round. If Hamilton was available, while I think it maybe should’ve been Fleury, it would probably have been Gardiner.

QUESTION: Carolina's biggest addition to the forward group (since last year) is:

(Votes: 130)

An improved Andrei Svechnikov: 51%
Vincent Trocheck: 29%
Martin Necas: 16%
Ryan Dzingel: 2%
An improved Warren Foegele: 2%

I think Svechnikov is the right answer here. He’s transitioned from a top-nine forward to a star since last season and while Vincent Trocheck was a great addition, Svechnikov has been one of the team’s top players this season.

QUESTION: When do you think Jack Drury will make the jump to the NHL?

(Votes: 54)

2022-23: 37%
Won’t make/stay in the NHL: 28%
2021-22: 22%
2023-24 or later: 13%

I’m with the 72 per cent of readers who think he’ll make the NHL and I tend to agree with the 2022-23 guess. My best guess would be: he’ll play overseas for 2020-21, then will likely start in the AHL for 2021-22, before making a full-time jump in about two years from now for the 2022-23 season. This would be right when Trocheck’s current deal ends, as well as the last year on Jordan Staal’s contract.
