Defensively, Los Angeles had a bit of a rough start. Even though the Kings were outshooting the Blues early on and getting some chances, they were giving up odd-man rush after odd-man rush. It was really the second period when Los Angeles’ forwards started picking apart St. Louis’ defense. The tide turned and all of a sudden, the Kings were getting chance after chance and had 12 scoring chances in the period, compared to five for the Blues (according to NaturalStatTrick.com).
Jonathan Quick had to make some huge saves, including a cross-crease save just a few minutes into the game. Quick has been great over the last few games and at times, he looks like the goaltender who was one of the best in the league just a few years ago.
This was the best game from the Kings’ forward group so far and the goals came from several different sources. We saw a great goal from Carl Grundstrom, Gabriel Vilardi scored his third goal of the season and Lias Andersson got his first goal with the Kings.
Yet again, it wasn’t a full 60-minute performance from the Kings. That said, they took advantage of their opportunities and it was a great win to see.
