The Los Angeles Kings lost a fourth game in a row last night, falling 3-2 in overtime to the St. Louis Blues.

Despite the game ultimately ending in disappointment after the Blues tied the game with a late goal and got the win in overtime, this was a good outing for the Kings overall. Los Angeles had a strong first two periods, outshooting the Blues 20-11 and went into the third period with the game tied. The Kings were generating some great chances, while keeping opportunities for the Blues to a minimum. The third period was quite a bit more even but the Kings were certainly still pressing.

Some notes: I think Rasmus Kupari had a pretty decent debut. He was already comfortable skating with the puck for zone entries and kept things simple with some good, short passes to advance the play. Speaking of a different forward, Gabriel Vilardi has been looking good lately, with six points in his last nine games. He’s been really active around the net in the offensive zone, getting to good spots to receive the puck for chances.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad game for the Kings and I think they’ve been better than their record shows over the last stretch of games. The Kings and Blues will face off in the second and final game of their series tonight. Vladimir Tarasenko is expected to return for the Blues, following shoulder surgery.
