With the season fast approaching, there hasn’t been a whole lot happening with the New York Islanders. There aren’t any topics worthy of a full article but there are a few updates worth taking note of.

ISLANDERS RELEASE ROOKIE CAMP ROSTER

The Islanders released their rookie camp roster today. Some of the most interesting names: Sebastian Aho, Kiefer Bellows, Noah Dobson, Simon Holmstrom, Otto Koivula, Oliver Wahlstrom and Bode Wilde.

INJURY UPDATE

An injury update was also released via the team’s Twitter account.

Bode Wilde has an ankle sprain, Simon Holmstrom will be day-to-day with a lower-body injury and Bobo Carpenter suffered a shoulder injury, of which we don’t know the severity.

BARZAL CONTRACT

Mathew Barzal and the New York Islanders have yet to have any “substantive talks” about a contract extension, according to Tom Gulitti from NHL.com. Barzal is set to become an RFA after next season and said the option is present to have a deal get done midway through the season.

CAL CLUTTERBUCK

Cal Clutterbuck has had a successful recovery from his offseason back surgery. He suffered a stress fracture, two rotated vertebrae and two slipped disks, according to Islanders reporter Cory Wright. Clutterbuck’s recovery lasted 12 weeks and he was able to start skating at the seven-week mark.
