The New York Islanders announced today that they’ve relieved John Gruden and Jim Hiller of their duties as assistant coaches.

The move comes exactly one month after Barry Trotz was fired.

Gruden was an assistant coach with the Islanders for the four years in which Trotz was coaching the team. Hiller had been an assistant coach with New York for the last three seasons, after first joining the organization in 2019.

The move now leaves three assistant coaching positions vacant under Lane Lambert, to be filled at some point this offseason.
