The New York Islanders announced their opening night roster yesterday, featuring 14 forwards, seven defenseman and two goalies.

The full roster is listed below:

FORWARDS (14): Josh Bailey, Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier, Kieffer Bellows, Casey Cizikas, Ross Johnston, Anders Lee, Matt Martin, Brock Nelson, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Zach Parise, Kyle Palmieri, Nikita Soshnikov and Oliver Wahlstrom

DEFENSE (7): Sebastian Aho, Noah Dobson, Scott Mayfield, Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock and Alexander Romanov and Robin Salo

GOALIES (2): Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov

INJURED (1): Cal Clutterbuck

In net, it’ll be Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov once again. The duo has provided great goaltending for the team for the last two years and this season should be no different.

The Islanders’ forward group also has 14 returning forwards. However, because Cal Clutterbuck is on injured reserve, Nikita Soshnikov is the one notable addition to the roster.

The defense group already had five defensemen locked in for lineup spots, with Noah Dobson, Scott Mayfield, Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock and Alexander Romanov. However, we can expect Robin Salo and Sebastian Aho to battle for a spot on the bottom pairing. Aho spent the entire year with the Islanders last season, though Salo may have more upside and could possibly have a full-time role by the end of the year.

It’s almost an identical roster to last season but hopefully without the long road trip to the start the year and a fairly healthy lineup, the team’s able to get off to a better start, beginning on Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
