The Anaheim Ducks were eliminated from playoff contention yesterday, following their 5-2 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. The loss to the Hurricanes came on the second half of the back-to-back, after defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Friday. Anaheim had also faced the Calgary Flames last week, falling 4-2.

With the two losses in three games last week, the Ducks remain the NHL’s worst team since February by far, with six wins over their last 26 games. It’s a pretty major decline to be eliminated from contention with eight games still remaining, considering how promising of a start to the season the Ducks had.

The Ducks also signed Blake McLaughlin to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries a $883,750 cap hit and will kick in next season.

McLaughlin is a 22-year-old forward and was selected by the Ducks in the third round of the 2018 Draft. This season, he scored 13 goals and 33 points in 39 games with the University of Minnesota in the NCAA.
