The New York Islanders extended their win streak to four games yesterday, defeating the New Jersey Devils 4-3.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau opened the scoring for the Islanders a little over midway through the first frame, taking a pass from Kyle Palmieri and going five-hole on Nico Daws. Then only a few minutes later, Pageau struck again on a power play after some hard work along the boards, burying a rebound in front to put the Islanders up 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Then after a pretty slow second period where neither team generated a lot of chances, Pageau buried his hat trick goal off a pass from Adam Pelech. Jesper Boqvist tipped in a shot from Damon Severson to put New Jersey on the board, but the Islanders still took a 3-1 lead into the third period.

In the final frame, Tomas Tatar brought the game back to 3-2 early and it was far from New York’s best period, being outshot 15-7. However, Kyle Palmieri doubled New York’s lead later and while Nico Hischier scored a late goal to make it interesting, the Islanders held on for the win.

It was a solid game for New York, with an especially strong first 40 minutes. They did a really good job limiting New Jersey’s chances for a lot of the game and it marks second road win in a row (and fourth straight win).

Pageau’s hat trick was nice to see - for someone who has a really good shot and can score goals, he hasn’t been capitalizing a lot this season.

Cory Schneider also picked up a win in his first NHL game since 2020. He was as good as he needed to be, stopping 27 shots in the win.

We also saw P.K. Subban go after Oliver Wahlstrom, following Wahlstrom's hit on Jack Hughes. Subban was ejected, while Wahlstrom remained in the game.

New York’s next game comes tomorrow night against the Dallas Stars.
