Bryan Marchment passes away at 53

Bryan Marchment, a scout with the San Jose Sharks and longtime NHL defenseman, has passed away at the age of 53.


Marchment played 926 career NHL games with nine different teams and spent parts of six seasons playing with the Sharks. Since retiring, Marchment had spent 15 years as a scout with San Jose.

Marchment was attending the NHL Draft in Montreal, though the cause of death was not released.

Sharks general manager Mike Grier said the following regarding Marchment's passing:
