Lou Lamoriello has been doing a bit of a tour as he now hit the TSN 1050 Toronto Overdrive show on Friday. Here are some notes on that interview.

CLICK THIS to listen to the whole interview.

1. On Tavares Decision: John Tavares called Lou directly. Lou wished him the best. Had the right to choose what was best for him. Wishes John all the best except when he plays against the Islanders. JT leaving gives opportunity to other players to raise their game. Player reaction: excited about getting going and the season. Those who didn’t fair well, new opportunity with new staff. Rest is in the past.

2. Observation: Lou never ever mentions Ledecky’s name... ever. Mentions a Malkin only once again in regards to spending money, Belmont, etc. My guess here is no real relationship with Ledecky. This only underlines items since Malkin’s move in bringing Lou in. Ledecky has been very under the radar since, only showing up for a Belmont parade.

3. Lou cites: “Defensively is where the problems were”. Lou who hasn’t changed personnel there, so I feel this is focused on coaching system and handling by Isles. However, previous regime also blamed goaltending also. Interesting difference.

4. On adding Komarov & Martin: Lou says in talking to players and due to his relationship with Garth Snow and Doug Weight... Lou felt a culture change was needed. So Matt Martin and Leo Komarov are two individuals that can be invaluable due to their intangibles and can play needed roles. Feel extremely good about them and what they will bring to what they are trying to build.

5. When asked about naming a Captain: Lou says it is not a priority. About finding out about personality of players individually and about personality of team collectively. If it takes time, it does. Not rushing into it.

6. On Josh Ho Sang: had casual meeting with him. Whatever is in past, is past. Clean slate on and off ice. Up to him for success. Lou says JHS had an outstanding prospect camp and looking forward to him being at camp.
