It's been an eventful few weeks for Patrice Bergeron. As he recovers from a June surgery to repair a groin issue, Bergeron revealed last week that he has been suffering from back spasms. He attributes the issue to his recovery from the groin issue.

As the Bruins skated through two preseason wins in China, and two back here in America, Bergeron has been mostly absent from the ice at Warrior Arena.

Assistant coach Joe Sacco addressed the issue when meeting the media on Thursday, stating Bergeron had not skated to date.

But then there was this tweet on Friday from the Boston Herald's Steve Conroy.

Bergeron skated Friday morning before the rest of the team hit the ice. Following his workout, he met the media and addressed whether or not he skated prior to today.

"I went on the ice for 15 minutes [Wednesday], it was like the first real practice I guess if you call it that way, actually increased tempo and all that," said Bergeron.

Hitting the ice twice in three days is a welcoming sight to the Bruins and their fans. Where Bergeron goes from here will be important as he hopes to be ready for the season opener in Washington on October 3.

The Bruins have four preseason contests remaining, Bergeron hopes to be able to play in one, but knows that now is not the time to push things.

"The goal is to be ready for game one. Hopefully we get an exhibition game in there at the end. So we will play it by ear at that point. But obviously we’d like to, I’d like to get one, but we’re not going to push for it, see how it goes," added Bergeron.

"You know the timeline hasn’t changed, still hoping for the Washington game and go from there. Everyday improving and feeling better, still a little stiff. With that being said, it’s still going to plan, we’re trying to not jump any steps."

With 12 days until the season opener, Bergeron and the Bruins have some time on their hands. They hope these two steps forward, combined with the time they do have will be enough to get Bergeron to where he needs to be in order for the veteran to be in the lineup against the Capitals.

"Time is on our side, that’s not always the case during the season," said Bergeron. "So we’re trying to use that towards our advantage."

It's obviously worth monitoring over the next few days, but it's certainly encouraging to see Bergeron back out there, even if it is for a few minutes here and a few minutes there.

Jumping back onto the ice was not the only Bergeron news that came out on Friday. Bergeron will be sporting some new ink next time you see him.
