Observations on the Stanley Cup Final

- The Jekyll and Hyde series heads to a game seven after last night Boston win in St. Louis. It’s the first Cup Finals game seven since 2011, also involving Boston as they won the cup in Vancouver.

- Wow… huge gaffe from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, publishing Cup Champion ads prior to Game Six as part of the paper’s Sunday digital edition.

- Jon Hamm also managed to aggravate Blues fans by shaving his beard prior to Game Six.

- This is now the 17th Cup Final that has gone the distance and the first time Boston has hosted a game seven for all the marbles in their long history.

- Home teams are 12-4 in game sevens at home in the Cup Final. This is the first time that St. Louis has gotten to a game seven in the final. They were swept in their first three appearances in 1968, 69 and 70.

- St. Louis’ lack of discipline bit them again last night… helping diffuse momentum in the first period and some shenanigans at the end of the game didn’t help as well.

- Their power play continues to struggle and Jordin Binnington gave up a softie for Boston’s second goal.

- The Blues are certainly road warriors in this post-season… they are 9-3 away from home so far.

- SlapShot Radio will have pregame for Game 7 at 6pm Wednesday night on 120.5 the Game

Other Random Notes

- My Story – The narratives being published on the Preds website from different Nashville personalities involved in the Save the Preds effort from 12 years ago have been very interesting to read… the latest one was from former Nashville mayor Karl Dean.

- Prospects – Brandon Walker’s Elite Edge Showcase begins today at Ford Ice Center. This is the 14th season that Walker and his group will welcome hockey hopefuls from around the world. The camp has 14 alumni that have been signed to professional contracts.

- Lambert – Nice Q&A with new Preds Assistant Coach Dan Lambert in The Athletic.

- Champions! - Congratulations to the Charlotte Checkers, who won the AHL’s Calder Cup on Saturday, defeating the Chicago Wolves 4 games to 1.

- So much for Skinner – Jeff Skinner was pulled off the 7/1 free agent market as he signed a 8 year contract with the Buffalo Sabres with a $9 per year cap hit.
