Hitting the Road

After a disappointing loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, the Predators head west in their search for consistency and points. Fortunately for Nashville, both Winnipeg and St. Louis haven’t taken full advantage of their games in hand... yet.

For the Blues, since their unbeaten February, they have lost to Carolina, Dallas and San Jose (in OT) and beaten Anaheim and LA… and now Vladimir Tarasenko is on the sideline for at least ten days… St. Louis hosts the surprising Arizona Coyotes tomorrow night before heading out on the road to Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Buffalo, not the most difficult schedule in the world, but there are a couple of teams battling for their playoff lives.

For Winnipeg, they dropped a 2-1 decision to Washington last night to stay a single point ahead of the Preds. They are home this week, with three playoff teams coming to the MTS Center, San Jose, Boston and Calgary. A difficult stretch that they should be happy to be home for.

For Nashville, a slow start again doomed the team to a loss on home ice. Some undisciplined play led to early penalties that had the team chasing the game and unable to complete a comeback. One bright light was Mikael Granlund scoring his first goal in gold… a bizarre goal that ended up with multiple reviews, eventually being awarded to the Predators and confusing the goaltender interference issue even more than it already is.

This week has the potential to be a get well week for the Preds. A west coast trip to Anaheim and LA, two teams, effectively out of the race and playing out the string. Of course, given this team’s penchant for playing down to their competition, this is cause for concern.

The Predators practice today before hitting the road for Southern California. Next up is Anaheim for a 9pm CDT faceoff tomorrow night.

The Where We Stand section

Nashville is in second place in the Central Division, one point behind the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg holds two games in hand over Nashville. The Preds lead St. Louis (2 GIH) by four points, Dallas by nine points and Minnesota by 11.

Nashville currently holds the 4 seed in the Western Conference playoff race.

Random Notes

- Milwaukee Update – An awful February is turning into a terrible March as the Ad’s dropped three straight over the weekend, twice to Chicago and once to Grand Rapids. Next game is a matinee against Cleveland on Wednesday

- Mrazek Magic – Carolina goaltender Petr Mrazek posted his 8th win over the Preds on Saturday against zero losses… yup… let’s pray he doesn’t get traded to a Central Division team.

- Owened? – Eh… not really… The Predators have picked up at least a point in seven of their last ten games against Carolina at home.

- Kiss Jerseys – Um… yeah! The Quad City Storm of the SPHL wore Kiss themed jerseys last Saturday night, and frankly… they were badass…

- Trouble in ‘Lumbus? – After losing four out of five… the Blue Jackets are barely holding on to a wild card spot.
