Trade Deadline 2019: The rich get richer

It's NHL Trade Deadline Day! For contenders, it's a chance to get stronger and deliver the fans a type of Christmas in February. For bottom-feeders, its a chance to cut bait with expiring contracts and futureless players - a post-mortem for those fans because they realization of another lost season has set in.

For the San Jose Sharks,  its Christmas time and Santa Wilson is ready to deliver.

The Sharks are deep upfront and are expeceted to heavily pursue some goalie depth to address a real need. So naturally, San Jose's first big move was to add more firepower to an already formidable top-9.

- The Sharks swung a late night deal with the Detroit Red Wings. San Jose acquired Gustav Nyquist for a 2019 second round pick and a conditional 2020 third round pick. Nyquist had to agree to waive his no-movement clause, which I'm sure he did happily.

Additionally, the Wings retain  30% of Nyquist’s salary and the 2020 3rd round pick which becomes a second in 2020 if San Jose reaches the Cup final, or if Nyquist re-signs with the Sharks. Whichever comes first. 😁

Nyquist has 16 goals and 49 points in 62 games with Detroit.

This all happened immediately following another Sharks victory that inluded a hatty from the captain.

- Sharks flip Linus Karlsson for prospect Jonathan Dahlen. Sharks get a diminutive 20-year-old center that appears to have a bit of upside. He's the son ofmSharks' alumni Ulf Dahlen. Check out this beauty of a description by eliteprospects.com.

"A dangerous offensive dynamo, Dahlén is a shifty scorer-slash-playmaker with refined technical skills and excellent overall awareness. Furthermore, an agile and creative player with great character. Handles the puck well at top speed and has great vision. Good work ethic and a very capable two-way player."

Put your tongue back in your mouth.

The rich get richer. I love that the Sharks are all-in for a championship. It's the Stanley Cup or bust.

I will continue to update this post as deals roll in - if they roll in.

Sit back, relax and enjoy deadline day 2019.

Steve
