In what has been a year full of injuries, the Bruins can add another one to the list. Top-six forward David Pastrnak will miss at least two weeks after undergoing surgery on this thumb. Pastrnak will be re-evaluated after the two weeks.

It's another tough break for a Bruins team that after Tuesday's contest with the Blackhawks, will then hit the road for five straight contests.

“He was extremely upset, disappointed. And he was extremely upset that he feels that he let everybody down despite it being an accident. He was apologetic and was heartfelt in trying to explain that accidents happen," general manager Don Sweeney said Tuesday morning.

Even with Pastrnak in the lineup, the Bruins were in need of help in their top-six as the trade deadline looms. But now with Pastrnak not expected to return until the deadline passes, the need for offensive help is magnified.

“We’re already looking and making calls to see whether or not we can add to the group and if it’s the right situation,” said Sweeney.

Unfortunately, the Bruins are familiar with losing key members for different stretches. Patrice Bergeron, Charlie McAvoy, Zdeno Chara and others have all missed time so far this season.

“We went through some of these challenges earlier in the year. We got through it. Someone else will have to step up within the group," said head coach Bruce Cassidy. "We don’t expect one player to deliver what Pasta (Pastrnak) has at this point, but we’ll look at different people there who have had some level of success, see if they can fill some of the void.”

Pastrnak is in the middle of his best season as a Bruin with 31 goals and 35 assists in 56 games.

With Pastrnak out for tonight's contest with the Chicago Blackhawks, David Krejci will be the lone Bruin to play in each game this season.

Here are the expected lines for tonight' matchup:

Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Danton Heinen
Jake DeBrusk-David Krejci-Peter Cehlarik
Joakim Nordstrom-Trent Frederic-David Backes
Sean Kuraly-Noel Acciari-Chris Wagner
