It seems likely, if not certain, the Carolina Hurricanes will trade Micheal Ferland prior to the trade deadline.

In this edition of the hotstove, we share our thoughts on which team(s) would be the best fit.

I thought Pittsburgh made a ton of sense but their trade with Florida probably takes them out of the running considering they're now very short on cap space, picks, etc.

Nashville is another team that stands out as a very natural fit. They've long been looking for a physical player who can score and add a net-front presence in extra-man situations. I think Ferland is exactly that.

He is producing at a 20+ goal, 40+ point pace for the second year in a row, he scores power play goals around the paint at a good clip, he has experience playing with high-end talents (Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan in Calgary, Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen in Carolina), and he hits like a truck.

He is the kind of guy teams gearing up for a deep run always chase and Nashville certainly fits the bill.

Ferland is an intriguing player for any team looking for a deadline acquisition and boost to their team. He's affordable and also a UFA who will get a considerable salary boost next season so he's likely the most pure form of rental.

Ferland is a play driver and will be a nice accessory piece but he's being deployed in favorable settings it appears and buyers should do some research before making an offer. He's been linked to a few teams and the Winnipeg Jets are one of them but what would he cost.

As a true rental, it appears he could be worth a low first round pick but I think if the buyer's market continues to hold teams could get him for a different kind of package. Perhaps a decent prospect and later pick which might be something the Jets and a few other teams are more likely to pay. Ferland is one player that a bidding war could happen for but if rumors hold true with his salary demands only a team with cap space next year will overpay to get him, and they might want to know if he would sign there too.
